*Description: This is a beautiful and unique cameo designed Germany pendant & brooch combination with matching courting couple earrings stamped W. Germany from the 1940s to 1950s. This cameo style was to show love and friendship. The courting couple are on the pendant which unhooks to become a stand-alone brooch. It is a very unique and rare design for this necklace. The earrings have the same couple with the same matching outfits but in a different position. They are stamped W. Germany on the earring clips. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
