This is a truly unique vintage necklace from the 1950s, originally from my mother’s collection. The necklace features hand-knotted gemstone beads in shades of creamy white, soft gray, and pinkish beige. Each bead varies slightly in tone and pattern, adding to its natural beauty.
A carved elephant pendant hangs on one side, giving this necklace a distinctive asymmetrical design. The pendant and two carved cylindrical beads appear to be either celluloid or bone, based on testing and visual inspection. The pendant itself is smooth and delicately detailed with subtle carving lines and an openwork leg design.
The necklace is finished with a gold-tone filigree hook-and-slide clasp typical of the 1950s. Elegant, organic, and one of a kind — this would make a wonderful addition to your vintage jewelry collection or a thoughtful gift for an elephant or animal lover.
