*Description: This is a beautiful Germany filigree wide brooch with orange art glass, faux pearls, and white enamel from the 1940s. All stones are in place and the brooch is stamped Made in Germany on the pin. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
Reference: Julia C Carroll’s Costume Jewelry 101
*Approximate Measurements: Length - 1 Inch, Width - 2 1/4 Inches
*Condition: Great vintage condition. May see flea bites on the rhinestones or art glass. Will see signs of wear under magnification. See photos for details.
