*Description: This is a beautiful pair of Germany filigree clip on earrings from the 1940s. The earrings have an enamel light red flower with a darker red glass rhinestone center. They also have orange rhinestone accents and a gorgeous fire polished clear rhinestone which looks like aurora borealis but is actually the fire polished technique for this time period. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
