*Description: This is a beautiful gold plated and silver tone choker necklace by GROSSE and is stamped with the designer's name, Germany, and 1976. Henkel & Grosse were from Pforzheim, Germany, beginning their business in 1907 until 2006. Beginning in 1955, Henkel & Grosse made four collections a year for Christian Dior under an exclusive worldwide license that was in effect for 50 years. Some later Henkel & Grosse pieces were made in the United States and in Asia. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
