*Description: This is a beautiful Hobe' beaded gemstone necklace from the 1950s. The necklace had a fold over tag that is unattached, in foil that says "Genuine Stone". The red beads tested as garnets which is the birthstone for January. The white beads are mother of pearl. There are also tiny golden brass spacer beads. The white and red beads are 4mm and the necklace is 16 inches in length. The Hobe' clasp is unique and you push the ring into the hook space and pull for it to close and push the ring against the clasp for it to open. It is a very secure clasp and the patent number is on one side and Hobe' on the other. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!

The original Hobe’ family was in business in the US from 1927 to 1995. William Hobe’ immigrated to the United States from France. His father Jacques Hobe was a well known designer of fine jewelry in France. William began his career in the US by selling theater costumes. Some were sold to Ziegfield of the Ziegfield Follies in New York. Mr. Ziegfield asked William to create real looking jewelry for the show. Under the direction of the Hobe family, Hobe’ jewelry enjoyed many years as a premier manufacturer of costume jewelry. Much of his jewelry was often hand made with high quality materials. Some Hobe’ slogans were “Jewels of Hobe” and “Jewels of Legendary Splendor”. Information shared from Costume Jewelry 101 by Julia C Carroll.
