*Description: This is a beautiful example of Japanese Damascene Jewelry from the 1940s. On the bracelet, there are 10 storytelling panels with many landscapes, flowers, and animals in Japan. The back of each storytelling panel is signed by the designer. The sterling had a plating over the top which is showing wear, only on the back of the bracelet. The bracelet is stamped STERLING AMITA JAPAN on the clasp. The next item is a brooch which is stamped SILVER JAPAN and has pagodas with Mount Fuji in the background. The screw back earrings are floral with a bird flying overhead and they are also stamped SILVER JAPAN. Damascene jewelry uses a gorgeous technique in which precious metals are folded together to create tiny images against a background of blackened metal; niello. The technique used in Japan to decorate accessories for Japanese swords, but later was used for jewelry and small boxes. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
