*Description: This is a rare Monet necklace from the Carousel series, a dog collar style choker, contoured in shape to fit snuggly high up on the neck from the 1950s. The necklace is featured on page 122 in Monet the Master Jewelers by Alice Vega. She shared that the fox tail extender chain has an oval shaped slider which allows for adjustments. The extender chain is finished at the tips. Monet used this adjustable extender on many of their necklaces through the 1950s. They do not appear in any designs after 1959. Chokers were worn from day into evening. The perfect party ensemble of the 1950s usually consisted of a strapless evening dress topped off with a delicate choker. The slider and tassels were dangling down the back with an open back dress. The tassels could also be worn in the front, particularly, if the clasp was monogramed. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!

Michael and Jay Chernow founded Monocraft in 1929. As part of the business, the brothers developed an excellent plating process to branch into making jewelry, which they signed “MONET”. Monet jewelry reflects classic designs that can be worn daily. Information shared by Julia C. Carroll in Costume Jewelry 101.
