This is a beautiful vintage porcelain cameo portrait brooch and matching clip-on earrings set from Western Germany, dating to the 1950s–1960s.

Each piece features a hand-transferred portrait of a young Victorian-era lady on a porcelain oval cabochon, set in antique gold tone filigree frames. The brooch and earrings are secured with decorative prongs and exhibit the refined artistry typical of mid-century West German costume jewelry.

Both the brooch and earrings are stamped “WESTERN GERMANY” on the reverse, confirming their manufacture during the period between 1949 and 1990 when the country was divided. Jewelry made during this time is especially collectible due to its craftsmanship and historical context.

After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors (American, British, French, and Soviet). Pieces marked “Germany” predate 1949, while jewelry made between 1949–1990 is marked “West Germany.” After reunification, the mark reverted to “Germany.”

According to Julia C. Carroll’s Costume Jewelry 101, the most sought-after W. Germany pieces are elaborate filigree designs with matching sets such as this — often combining portraiture, enamel, and textured gilt metal.
