Born in 1886, Hattie Carnegie began her jewelry line in 1939 and continued through 1970. In 1939, she began marketing jewelry to coordinate with her fashions. Many talented artists designed Carnegie jewelry. Some of the best loved Carnegie pieces are from her theme collections. Her most common marks are “Hattie Carnegie” in script, “Carnegie”, and “HC” in a diamond oval frame, which is rare. Carnegie passed away in 1956 but her jewelry continued to be manufactured until 1970 with Kenneth J. Lane being one of the head designers. This information was shared in Julia C Carroll’s book Costume Jewelry 101 and the website: Researching Costume Jewelry History, Jewelry Marks, Fashion Jewelry, Vintage Jewelry Research, Jewelry Signatures.
