*Description: This is a beautiful large Weiss clear rhinestone floral brooch on rhodium plating from the 1950s. This brooch is stamped WEISS CO; the hallmark first used in 1947. The brooch was constructed in two sections with the flower center slightly raised above the rest of the brooch. There are a variety of cuts of rhinestones within the brooch which include teardrop, chaton, and emerald. This is a large brooch at 3 inches. It would look gorgeous for any special occasion. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
Weiss was founded in 1942 and ceased operations in 1971. Albert Weiss gained experience by working at Coro and then founded in 1942. Most of the Weiss jewelry is made of high quality Austrian rhinestones and timeless designs.
According to Julia C Carroll in Costume Jewelry 303, some Weiss pieces were designed and manufactured by DeLizza and Elster, Inc, to be sold under the Weiss trademark. Weiss used a wide variety of rhinestones, art glass in some designs and usually prong set stones. They usually used heavy silver or gold tone plating. Some Japanned metal designs and a few colorful enamel designs. Signature was stamped into the metal, part of the mold, or on a raised cartouche.
*Approximate Measurements: Length & Width - 3 Inches, Weight - 2 Ounces
*Condition: Great vintage condition. Will see signs of wear under magnification. See photos for details.
*Hallmark: Weiss
