*Description: This is a beautiful peridot green rhinestone Weiss butterfly brooch with Aurora Borealis green spots on a gold plated background from the last half of the 1950s. The outline of rhinestones around the butterfly are made with uranium glass rhinestones so when under a black light, they glow. This brooch would be lovely on a wedding bouquet or bridal decoration. The butterfly also has peridot green and opaque rhinestones in a gold plated backing with a rolling c clasp and WEISS signed on a raised cartouche. Four of the rhinestones are open back for the light to come shining through. Weiss made this design in many color variations. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!

Weiss was founded in 1942 and ceased operations in 1971. Albert Weiss gained experience by working at Coro and then founded in 1942. Most of the Weiss jewelry is made of high quality Austrian rhinestones and timeless designs.

According to Julia C Carroll in Costume Jewelry 303, some Weiss pieces were designed and manufactured by DeLizza and Elster, Inc, to be sold under the Weiss trademark. Weiss used a wide variety of rhinestones, art glass in some designs and usually prong set stones. They usually used heavy silver or gold tone plating. Some Japanned metal designs and a few colorful enamel designs. Signature was stamped into the metal, part of the mold, or on a raised cartouche.
