*Description: This is a beautiful West Germany rhinestone filigree necklace from the 1950s. The pendant is in a layered filigree design with a center carnival glass rhinestone, dog-toothed, with a circle of faux pearls. Then there are petals of filigree with light and dark topaz crystal rhinestones on a flat filigree base. The bail is heart shaped and this is where the tubular filigree chain begins with two faux pearls. Near the chain clasp is the ring with Made in Western Germany stamped on one side. The necklace is unique and gorgeous. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!

After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
