*Description: This is a gorgeous Western Germany fire polished red rhinestone filigree brooch from the 1950s. The fire polished red center rhinestone is encircled with faux pearls and dog-toothed decorative prongs. The filigree petals have red rhinestones on each petal and in between each petal. Then there is a filigree bottom layer. The brooch is marked West Germany on the pin. It is difficult to see without a loop. The last photograph is a closeup of the pin. There are several discolorations on the brooch probably from perfume. This can be touched up or left as is. The rhinestones are all in place and it is a beautiful brooch. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
