*Description: This is a beautiful pair of Western Germany filigree clip on earrings with light and darker topaz rhinestones, prong set, on the filigree background from the early 1950s. The earrings clips are marked W. GERMANY on the back of the clip. The rhinestones are beautiful and are accented with faux pearls. Each earring has two dangles of a faux pearl and topaz bead. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
