*Description: This is a beautiful vintage porcelain cameo portrait brooch and matching earrings from the 1950s to 1960s in an antique gold tone frame. The beautiful girl on the porcelain oval brooch and earrings is prong set to keep it safe with decorative prongs. The matching earrings are clips and all of the pieces are stamped Western Germany. The lady's portrait in the cameo are made using what is referred to as transfer ware. This would be a great addition to your vintage jewelry collection or make a great vintage gift!
After WWII, Germany was divided into four sectors: American, British, French, and Soviet. In 1946, there was a guarded border between West Germany and East Germany. Then in 1952, the border between the two was closed until it was reopened again in 1989. Due to the history, it is possible to date some of the jewelry made in Germany. Jewelry made before 1949 is marked GERMANY, but jewelry made after that time up until 1990, is marked WEST GERMANY. Jewelry made after 1990 is again marked GERMANY.
The most collectible marked W. Germany pieces are jewelry sets: pins and earrings, or necklaces and earrings made of elaborate filigree metal and decorated with tiny colorful beads and pearls.
